Mary Jane (Melia) Brennan passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026. She was a cherished soul whose warmth and kindness touched all who knew her. Born in the County Galway, Ireland, Mary's journey of love, dedication, strength, and service spanned many years and miles, from her Irish roots to the heart of her family in the United States.
Mary was the beloved wife of the late Patrick Brennan, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage of 64 years beginning in 1960. Together, they cultivated a life rich in love and laughter, leaving a legacy of enduring family bonds. She was a proud and devoted mother to her four sons: Kieran Brennan and his partner Marie Marchand of Shirley, Paul Brennan and his wife Theresa of Dedham, Eugene Brennan of Lawrence, and John Brennan and his wife Sharon of Foxboro. Mary's heart held a special place for her adoring grandchildren Caitlyn, Kelsi, Michael, Sara, and James Brennan, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her loving spirit extended to her many nieces and nephews, both in the States and back in Ireland, each of whom held a unique place in her heart.
Mary was predeceased by her dear brothers Jack and Pat Melia, and she leaves behind her caring sisters Nora Fox of Galway, Ireland, and Bride McGrath of Kingston. Her enduring friendship with Pat Sullivan of Milton, lasting nearly 50 years, stands as a testament to the depth of connections she forged throughout her life.
Professionally, Mary was a dedicated home health aide for the elderly and Alzheimer's patients. Her compassionate nature and tireless work ethic were evident as she continued to serve well into her 70s. Mary found joy and purpose in her work, which she often said kept her young and her spirit vibrant.
From her early years, Mary's life was one of adventure and love. At 19, she moved from Ireland to Birmingham, England, and took on the role of a ticket taker on a double-decker bus. It was there she met her beloved Pat, who was the bus driver, sparking a romance that would span continents and decades. Her strong sense of family was the cornerstone of her existence; she never missed an event that involved her loved ones. Mary's love for her grandchildren was unparalleled, and she reveled in every opportunity to be part of their lives.
An avid parishioner of St. Mary of the Hills, Mary's faith was a guiding light throughout her life. She also cherished simple pleasures, like savoring a coffee or tea during countless dates with friends and family. She and Pat had a fondness for Castle Island, where they enjoyed a bite to eat at Sullivans and a stroll around the Sugar Bowl.
Mary, also known as Beasley or Maisie, will be remembered as the embodiment of love, kindness, and thoughtfulness. Her legacy is one of unwavering support, boundless affection, and a life lived with intention and grace. She has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she encountered, and her memory will be treasured forever.
Visiting hours will be held at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home 326 Granite Ave Milton on Sunday March 1 from 4:00-7:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Church Milton on Monday March 2 at 10:00am. Burial to follow at Milton Cemetery
